Nimbus — Mobile Banking App
A banking app redesigned so people actually understand where their money goes.
The problem
Nimbus had strong banking infrastructure but a support queue full of the same complaint: customers could not tell why a balance changed. Category labels were inconsistent, pending transactions looked identical to cleared ones, and the budgeting tool nobody used lived three taps deep.
The approach
I ran five rounds of moderated testing on paper flows before touching a single screen, then rebuilt the transaction model visually: colour-coded status, a running balance that animates instead of jumping, and budgeting surfaced right on the home tab instead of buried in a menu. Every screen was designed mobile-first with one-handed reach in mind.
The outcome
The redesign shipped in three phases over a quarter, with usability scores tracked at each one. Support tickets tagged 'confused about balance' dropped by more than a third within six weeks of the full release, and the budgeting tool went from a rarely-opened screen to a daily one for most active users.
